Sinopsis:

The term, blue carbon, is referred to carbon which is absorbed and conversed by coastal and sea ecosystem such as mangrove, seagrass, and ebb tide swamp. Unlike green carbon which is conserved by land forest, blue carbon has its own specialty because it is conserved in the sediment condition which is anaerobe or lack of oxygen. This condition makes the process of organic material decomposition runs very slowly so that carbon conserved in the sediment can survive for thousands of years without hanging down loosely to become carbon monoxide (CO) which is back to the atmosphere.

Therefore, blue carbon ecosystem has become the most effective and durable absorption on earth. According to IPCC IIntergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), coastal ecosyster can conserve carbon 10 times more than it does hectare, compared with land tropical forest3. This potential has made blue carbon as a vital component in an attempt to mitigate global climate change, especially in decreasing carbon emission which comes from industrial and transportation sectors
